88' Mariner Magnum II issues??

Hi all! I just picked up a 88' Stratos 201 P with Mariner Magnum II 150. Hull is in excellent shape but the motor won't start. It will turn though. Compressions good. I found a red wire off the engine harness crispy. It's connected to the switch box. Does this means the switch box may be bad? I'm going to check if there's any sparks this afternoon.
