"Trying to change the impeller. Unbolted lower end, and disconnected shift linkage, lower end drops about 1.5 inches but shift rod is still locked in. i saw a suggestion to remove the starter but it's already out of the way."

Thanks very much. We took out

Thanks very much. We took out the wrong screw. Reattached the linkage and removed the screw from the port side. Lower end slid out. Any special advice when we put it back together? or something preventative to do while the lower end is out?
 
make sure you are in neutral o

make sure you are in neutral or reverse which ever your manual says. that rod should be threaded and you have to measure to the 1/32" from the top of the lower unit to the hole in the rod......it took me a couple tries...
