85 4.3 liter Mercruiser temperature sensor location

The alternator belt exploded and the temperature gauge quit working at the same time. I’m guessing the belt must have hit the wires of the sensor. Does anyone know where this is located? Thank you

Or maybe I should ask if there’s a connection between the alternator not charging and the gauge not working.
