8 hp 4 stroke yamaha hard to start

bloaky

New member
bought a new 8 hp 4 stroke yamaha last year and found that i had to pull it over a half a dozen times to fire it up. would much rather pull it once like my old 9.9 merc. any advice on what i am doing wrong or what i could do to improve start up would be appreciated. i have heard something about the ethonal in the gas could be causing not enough octane to help it fire. at the price of gas i would prefer not to have to run high test. its kind of embarrassing trying to start a new o/b this many times.

If you have the owners manual, follow the starting procedure. There is a mark on the throttle handle for cold start, then full choke it, pump the primer ball til firm, then pull it. I have a T9.9. new last year and that is the way I start it w/o any problems, it is is a little cold blooded so you need to reduce the choke a little but leave on until the engines warms up.
