8.1 MPI. Cranks over then shuts down.

New member
have twin engines. Only 4 years old.
One engine runs fine. Other turns over but there seems to be no fuel pump sound when the key is in the on position. Engine fires and then shuts down so it appears the fuel pump is not running.
Are there fuses in line for the fuel pump? Have checked 3 fuses in the module on top of the engine, but do not see any others.
Any thoughts on why my fuel pump would not start clicking, yet the engine is getting full battery power and turns over?
 
try changing the fuel pump relay?

With the newer ECU's, the fuel pump usually runs for 2-3 seconds when the key is switched on. A test light will tell you if that circuit is working (battery voltage supplied to the pump) and a fuel pressure gauge will tell you if the pump is delivering fuel.
 
thanks makomark. I found a bad connection at the key switch which somehow did not affect engaging the starter, but did affect the fuel pump from getting any juice.
Cleaned up the key switch connections and engine worked perfectly again.
