8.1 Crusader 2002 - won't stay started when cold.

I have a 2002 Gibson Standard houseboat with two 8.1 crusaders. (80hrs). My port engine won't stay started at idle when cold, after 15 mins of babying it, then when nice and warmed up, it idles and runs fine. It sounds loader than the starboard engine as the carb is sounds like it is sucking more air, when I give it throttle it stalls. sometimes it backfires from the carb too.... When its warmed up the loader air sounds goes away.

8.1L engines are usually injected....probably best to get a scan tool and see what the ECU is getting for inputs...

I would verify that the throttle body plate is clean and sealing in the closed position. (Starting with throttle linkage allowing for full closed position) Also that the idle air hole in the plate isn't clogged. Curious, does this engine reach full RPM under load?
