75 Mercury 2 stroke won't start

I was out of the lake all last week and it ran fine then as we were getting ready to move to a different spot on lake the motor fired right up then quit!!. It's a 1985 75 hp mercury that wont start but will turn over just fine. I've checked gas and its good. i found a few spots in the wiring coming found the ignition switch that had the insulation cracked but wires seemed to be ok. How can i check to see if my ignition switch is working right? I'm going today to buy a spark tester and will report back
 
Change out ignition switch and changed battery cable ends and cleaned and charged the battery and it turns over a whole lot better but still no spark!!!!!!!
 
well i think i found my problem. I found some broken/bare wires that are coming out of the stator under the flywheel. Can't get to them yet but i can see them barely
