One more quick thing I think the spark plugs are J4J but I can not find what to gap them at
the motor is a 1980 johanson 7.5 it says cd on the fly wheel

The 1980 7.5 Johnson has solid state ignition (powerpack).

DO NOT use J4J or J4C plugs!

Use either Champion L77JC4 or QL77JC4 plugs gapped at .030 .

The J4J is no longer available and is superseded up to the J4C BUT they are designed to be used with magneto ignition.
