68 johnson 9.5hp

I have a Johnson 9.5hp carberator,the 1/2 plug on side of carb,took it out to clean and read that there is suppose to be a filler plug on the inside,this did not have one so I bought a new one but the manual doesn't say which way it is suppose to go in,there is a open end and on the other end is like a half moon shape with small grooves in it,can some one tell me which way this is to be installed,thank you for your time

You're right about one thing, the manual doesn't say. And it's been so many years since I've had one apart that I don't remember. If nobody else knows, perhaps a picture of it would jog my memory.
