5hp two-stroke suddely loud

My 5hp two stroke engine suddenly became louder -- so loud I need to wear ear plugs. I suspect it might have something to do with the reed valves? Or? If it is the reeds, are they accessible or should I take it to a shop?

In order to access the reeds on that model, you need to split the crankcase halves. What makes you suspect reeds? Does it start and run correctly? Is there any smoke inside the cowling? If so, it might have blown a driveshaft housing gasket, or be in the process of blowing a head gasket.
