Yes I did a little research and discovered a big difference.

I am looking to increase my horsepower...I am running an AQ225D (5.0 L)What are my options?

If you want a true marine SBC, don't do the dished pistons. Build one using a "quench effect" style piston and the appropriate cylinder head combustion chamber size that will give you a correct C/R.
This can be done with one of several Q/E pistons and with several cylinder head selections.


The rest is using a marine cam profile and many of the above mentioned.
If you go with a closed cooling system, you do not need the marine Circ Pump nor the marine head gasket set.... and can save a few dollars.

I do not know which boat this is regarding, but IMO, your best all around "bang-for-the-buck" is the addition of a Duo Prop (depending on the hull)."
