5.7 volvo penta D/P 1997 stalls when i put it in gear

I have a 5.7 volvo penta 1997.When i put it in gear and also in neutral and give it throttle it dies.I have read other forums and they say it could be the low fuel pressure pump.Does anyone have some advice and how do you check to see if the low presssure pump is working.Thanks

It would help if you give more details about your engine. There are a few 5.7 models for that year.
