Hello,

I have a 1998 5.7 liter merc with 250 hp. The hoses that come off the valve covers (PVC) and run up towards the carb I assume should be hooked to the spark arrestor? There are no tubes on the arrestor however there are two flat metal strips with a small hole in each, can someone please explain to me how these hoses are to be attached? Currently one is leaning against the carb and the other is pushed over the end of the flat metal strip?

Sounds like someone replaced that arrestor or busted the fittings off. There are breather hose fittings available that bolt to the arrestor and hold the hoses in place. Mallory flame arrestors use them. Holley makes them too and they are available at Summit Racing web site http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-720-31/ and at Jegs http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/720-31/10002/-1?parentProductId=757960

Ayuh,... As I said at iboats,...
Put the other hose on the other end of the metal strap...

That's the way it's SUPPOSED to be...
