Recently purchased boat with Mercury 40HP four stroke. When I began to service it noticed that the Tilt Support Lever is digging into the top of the piston when the engine is lowered. There is a worn area on the top of the engine support that looks as if someone tried to correct for this once by moving the lever past the stop at the top of the bracket.
The possibility exists that this is the wrong lever and the support arm is either too long or the lever is too large. Could someone provide the exact dimensions of the correct lever? I have not been able to determine this from the schematics. With the current corona virus situation I do not want to go to a dealer and measure one myself. This is a 2014 engine so there may be a redesign. This engine does not use a support rod, just the lever.
