35HP-1959 Evinrude Jubilee Lark

I have a 35HP evinrude that I use on a daily basis. Last week I had it out on the water and it would not come out of reverse. When I got home I took it apart and found a ring that is suppost to go around the gear shift shaft and bolt to the shifting part on the motor to be broken. Right now Id like to know if theres a way to make it go forward untill I can find the part to fix it. This motor runs like a champ and needs to be on the water
