280PT Trim Pump Oil

I have always filled the trim pump for my 280PT with Type F transmission fluid. This weekend I saw the same pump on my buddy's boat (Merc Alpha I drive) and it had the following sticker on it: "10W-30 or 10W-40 MOTOR OIL ONLY".

Like many 280PT owners my drive sags from the tilt position over time. I attempted the o-ring repair but gave up. I'm wondering if motor oil, being more viscous, would reduce the sag time.

What are other people using for oil in their pumps?
 
Volvo is the BEST there is.If your drive drops over time the hyd-pump probably needs replacing/rebuilding.
Merc used to use tranny fluid/power steering fluid.Then switched to regular oil.It doesn't mater if you use it or not(I wouldn't).
Look on iboats.com and the Force section,there is a guy called RRITT he does hyd pumps contact him.Or on e-bay follow this # and you'll find him.J 220779892902 on e-bay.(its for a hyd pump on a force)Yours will be different.J
