270 drive transport bracket

You know how the reverse latch on the drive locks onto the trim adjusting rod as you lower the drive .... should the latch lock on to the transport bracket in the same way or is it just supposed to rest on the transport bracket and not lock on?
Mine locks on to the trim rod but not onto the transport bracket"

"The reverse latch does not lock onto the transport bracket, it merely rests on it. I always run the tilt motor down for a second after putting the transport bracket in place so that I know the drive is resting fully on the transport bracket and not causing undue stress on the transom."
