25hp ELPT, seems to lack power

So, I'm new to this, never had a boat of my own.
Seems to take a long time to plane out, Legend Angler 15'

Tips on trim, propeller, additional fin?

I think I did a bad thing. I ran the outboard for about and hour with the fuel tank vent closed, to the point where the tank (plastic) partially collapsed. Would this have caused a problem with the fuel pump, now starving the engine?

I installed a tach today. Hopefully I can run the boat tomorrow and get some idea of engine speed, it just seems to run slow.
 
You might have too much pitch in your prop. I deliberately run a less than ideal pitch prop to make planning off easier when the 'gang' shows up.
