Shifter is in neutral and kill switch is on, turn the key and nothing. The battery is charged. Took it out Friday and started every time but had problems with it wanting to go in gear. We put it in forward and had to give it some gas from the hot foot before it went into gear. If you put it in reverse you would have to take and push it up into forward to get it out of reverse. So is there a swicth inside the shifter that tells the motor that its in neutral? could this be bad if so?

The " crank in nuetral only " switch is usually in the control box.---------Take it apart and check it.---------You have of course checked the fuse.-----------------Something is sticky in the shift cable / shift rod / or control box.----------Was lower unit off for waterpump work ???

No lower unit work has been done. Went out this afternoon and tried to start it and it turned over:confused:. I will look into the control box and get back with you. Thanks

with a stiff cable you may also encounter no ignition on the right bank of your motor the switch on the engine momentarly droped ign on stbd bank allowing easy shifting.with engine in neutral locate starter solonoid /make sure prop spins freely stay clear/ use a jump wire or screwdriver to arc from larg red wire comming from battery to small post yellow wire red tracer if this spins starter and the key wont neutral switch at shifter may be your problem hold key down like your trying to start move shifter back and forth rappidly if nothing happens temperaly connect a jumper between yellow/red tracer wires in control box. need to know
