I purchased a 16’ boat with a 4stroke Mercury outboard. boat came from sea level and is now in Colorado at 5,000 ft. It has difficulty planing out. I put a 10 pitch prop but still has a hard time planing out. Once it gets past 41krpm it planes out and will run up to 55krpm. Can I change gears to high altitude? If so, where can I find them? Any other suggestions?

Not an expert but some carbs do have jet options based on altitude. Look here based on the serial number on your engine if there are options for jet sizes... Different prop pitches will affect how fast you get up to speed or how fast you can go once up to speed. Lots written about prop pitch. Once again look here for standard prop pitch for your engine compared to what you have on there now... I have a 50hp 2 stroke.. Not real fast getting up to plane with the stock prop but not bad either...I like cruising around 5k rpm..not much more. Only responding since no one else did.
