"I have a 2005 40hp 2 stroke mercury. Since 2005 the motor has only run about 5hrs. Ran fine last summer but when I tried starting it this spring it turns over but does not start. I have chaged the plugs, battery, and gas. Still does not start. Any Ideas?"

"I checked the safety switch. The lanyard is connected and switch is pressed in. Also, all three plugs are getting a spark."

"electric choke or primed?, mix a little 2 stroke in a botlle and spray into carbs. You would have to say its fuel related since its got spark. 1 word of caution if it does run, lack of fuel through carb means lack of oil."
 
It has a choke on the ignition

It has a choke on the ignition. Push in for choke. Also has primer bulb on gas line from the tank to the engine which I made sure was firm before starting. I have tried pushing the ignition choke in before turning the key and while turning the key. I will give your suggestion a try. Thanks
