My 25 horse Yamaha (pull start) felt like it was “cutting out”. Changed the oil and plugs.
Took it out and it started fine, ran about 5 minuets and it stalled out. Started again and it ran for a few seconds backfired and died. Would not restart.
I checked a few possibilities with no defect found. Started checking wires and found the black/white wire from the engine coil corroded completely through at the disconnect. Cleaned both ends and soldered back together. Figured that was it. However it still would not start, or even “sound” like it wanted to”.
I pulled the plug and did the ground it to the engine spark test. I get no spark from either plug. I “think” the coil might have went out when the wire opened.
My questions are; 1. Is there a way to test the coil? 2. Any thoughts on possible other fixes?
