2004 Johnson 115 throttle only button sticking?

Well I tried that but it's not helping. I can take the main unit apart and shimmy it around to get it to pop back out. After that it works twice than sticks again and the whole shift handle will just move up and down free and clear of any gears? Can't seem to get behind the part that's actually messing up without some ring pliers. I guess that's the next step.
 
Yes I can tomorrow. I'll need to take it apart again anyhow. It's a brp single control. I'm also going to get the pliers to get to the actual problem area. Hoping it's just an adjustment or a spring or something.
 
Ok I took it apart this time I took all of it apart. I found the problem I think. The piece that guides the shifting mechanism has a plate between them with tabs that guide it and keep it aligned. That plate was bent a bit and through it all off. It shifted and went into the neutral warm up pretty decent so I think I got it. Thanks for responding boobie.
