My 2004 Evinrude cranks on the first try every time, runs great with plenty of power. However, when I put it in reverse it sometimes idles rough and will die. Not every time just two out of three times or so. I can throttle through it and it seems ok. I had my motor completely rebuilt last year and after the rebuild it didn't do this. Seems like it only started in the past 4-5 months. I have no clue what it could be. I was told there was a reverse switch that was put on the Fitch motors that would manage the transition from neutral to reverse and that this could be the issue. I was also told this switch might be loose but I’m not seeing any loose parts in the throttle assembly on the motor.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
