2004 5.7 efi belt problems--

my boat has close to 700 hours.. after run yesterday - rubber smell and smoking and suspect belts slipping... any comments , suggestions as havent replaced belts in two years.

Remove belt and check all accessory pullies to make sure you dont have an accessory going bad.....then check your idler/tentioner pulley to make sure either is not going bad.........

If it is an I/O I would be looking at the engine coupler, especially if you saw smoke.

Exact same thing happened to me a couple of months ago and it was the alternator freezing up. Bearings were bad. Saltwater really beats the sh*t out of things.
