The motor recently started struggling to get to speed and rpm's ( capping out now at 3700 @ 20 knts ) whereas before easy to go to 4400 and mid-20's. I thought this was all water in gas or electrical issue but...thanks to this forum, I have another idea I wanted to ask about. Just before this happened, I heard an intermittent knocking in the upper leg at idle. I was doing impeller anyway so thought I'd check then. When i removed the lower unit the exhaust tube dropped out !! The knocking was the tube bouncing around as it has broken off from the mounting plate.
A friend advised it was no big deal so went ahead and removed the broken tube and replaced the impeller. Now that i read a thread here, it mentions that a broken tube would result in more noise and losing some top end power..exactly what i was experiencing and around the same timing. Am i on the right track AND wondering approx labour hours to have someone replace the part ( as I read that powerhead has to come off ).
