2003 Evinrude 175 gear oil

I just drained my gear oil abo

I just drained my gear oil about a half cup of water came out first and the oil was black not milky. I have never seen gear oil like that. Does anybody have any ideas?

Could be black due to severe corrosion in the gearcase, not sure if it would be possible to get part burnt fuel in there. Doubt it.

Got to inspect its innards I think and clean out thoroughly. Replace seals refill with fresh oil and keep digits crossed.

Pressure and vacuum test a wise move possibly."
