2003 BF25A carb rebuild and pilot screw adjustments?

I recently bought a very low hour 2003 BF25A, the carbs were gummed up from sitting a couple years and most likely ethanol gas issues. It would run at WOT fine but missed and stumbled at idle so I tore the carbs apart and cleaned as well as replaced the low speed jets. Cleaned the tank and got fresh non oxy gas new gaskets etc. hooked it all up and it ran perfect idled like it should and everything... then about 20 minutes later on the water it started missing at idle and acting up again on low speed. Got home and completely tore the carbs apart thinking something got sucked in from the lines or whatever and this time removed the limiters then removed the pilot screws and tossed everything into the sonic cleaner. Everything is spotless ready to go so my big question is what is the factory setting for the pilots to start from?

Something probably got jarred loose as you were moving fuel lines etc around.....it happens.

2 3/4 turns.

If you have access to vacuum gauges, you should also vacuum balance the carburetors for good idle and acceleration.

Yup I thought about that. Thanks for the info! Also anyone know where to find a OEM service manual?

BTW any experience with a Morgan Carbtune synch? I don't have one right now but I want to make sure I get a good one...

Here is the link to the Honda Amazon Shttp://www.amazon.com/Honda-Marine-Outboard-Service-Repair/dp/B00D8ZYMXA/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A14VJQOXKKYWSYtore

There is also a Honda ebay store http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-BF25-...ual-/261214892037?vxp=mtr&hash=item3cd19ef005

One other manual is invaluable when it comes to working on Honda Carburetors.....The Honda Carburetor Manual. Great detailed pictures and instructions on how to clean (although you have already cleaned them) and how to balance the carburetors. The Service Manual does also explain how to balance but not as well. http://www.amazon.com/Honda-Marine-...TF8&qid=1443675138&sr=1-1&keywords=carburetor

Hi turbz,

Morgan Carbtune work fine with outboards and they`re good as nothing fragile that could be broken. I used them for years at my bike workshop and balanced hundreds of sets of carbs with them.

Cheers, Matt

The carb manual Mike mentioned is a GREAT buy....especially if you continue to have carb problems. I had been SUCCESSFULLY...professionally.... cleaning and rebuilding carbs for years before I bought one and it is still a reference I get something from almost every time I crack it open. MONEY WELL SPENT.

Good luck.
