"How can I check the hours on this motor?Its in storage,not on boat.Is there a program for laptop that plugs in?Or take to dealer?
I can pick it up for $3500 and he says is only got 100 hrs but I want to take the gamble out of that part at least.Thanks Dale"

"Dale, I would definately take it into Merc and have it looked at before finalizing the deal.

4 strokes are not forgiving of "lack of maintenance". You don't want to be buying 3500 bucks worth of scrap.

You may spend a few bucks having it inspected but could save you in the long run.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used 4 stroke without seeing the maint records and getting some kind of warranty - unless I was buying it "planning or fixing/rebuilding" - but maybe I'm just a little paranoid..."
