I am looking for help to trouble shoot an oil mixture problem I have with my 2001 Johnson 150 Oceanpro. I was out on my boat when my oil alarm sounded. I filled the oil reservoir with 2 cycle oil and my alarm continued to sound until my engine sounded as if it had no oil mixed with the gas and it ultimately shut itself down. Where is my oil pump located and how do I test it to see if it failed? Thanks

First you need to see if the motor is locked up, then you need to do a compression test to see if the engine is destroyed. Are you sure it was an oil alarm? did the motor go into slow made? Did the motor overheat? let us know, after we know the motor is still good we can trouble shoot the oiler.

the motor went into slow mode and I shut it down, I started in again and went forward for about 5 seconds and shut it again realizing it was not a good idea to run it at all. I dont think it is locked as i was able to turn it over. What should I do next?

Thanks

Mike

Hook up a portable tank premixed with oil, run the motor, wait for the alarm to go off, remove the cannon plug on the front of the VRO,

if the alarm turns off, its the oil alarm, if alarm does not go off, replug the vro plug.
go to back of motor and disconnect the cannon plug at number 15

if this makes the alarm stop it is the overheat system
let us know so we can help you trouble shoot the right system.
