Please Help!
while underway at cruise speed, my boat died.
after investigation I discovered a fried coil wire.
I did replace the coil wire and the coil itself, as well as the dist cap.
I did not replace all the spark wires that came with the coil wire.
now, I still cannot start the boat - turns over and over and nothing.
Also, when I turn on the key, the fuel pump does not turn on and I do not here the alarm beep that I normally here after ecm self diagnistics.
I have tested my connections and they all seem fine.
I do get 12V at the coil (with the key on) and at the main breaker.
the book says to test the wire that goes to the dist cap for 123v with key on - I DO NOT have 12v there.
the book says to replace the "ignition control module"
I don't see that part so I think that means ECM - which is very expensive.
before I do that I would like to verify that the very expensive spark is needed.
does anybody have any other tests?
I did find another thread: http://www.marineengine.com/boat-fo...spark-how-to-check-ign-module-for-replacement
that talks about an "ignition amplifier" which I dont see reference to in my book, so maybe I don't have that....
I also read a post about connecting the fuel pump to ground and turning the key on to see if that does turns it on - because the ecm grounds the pump.... but the pump is very hard to access so I have not tried that yet.
thanks in advance for any inoput!
