2000 Evinrude 9.9 E10EVL4SSS starting issues

My 9.9 kicker on my fishing boat will not crank. Nothing happens when you turn the key to the start position. A few years back there was a dead spot that if you jiggle the key it would turn over. Now nothing. Looking for some suggestions and troubleshooting help. What can I test and how can I do it? Is there something in the controls I can check? The boat hast a 2 battery system but the kicker is direct wired to battery 2 and it's a year old in exc condition. Thx for any and all help--

Look for and check the fuse first.

If you have had problems with the key start in the past, I would start there. Sounds like the key ignition has finally s**t itself
