2000 70HP Johnson Oil Injection Question

New to the forum and I am pretty ignorant to outboard motors, so I apologize in advance. I recently bought a fishing boat with a 2000, 70 HP Johnson Model # J70PLSSD. I have heard some negative statements regarding the oil injection system on this motor. Statements pertaining to the motor not getting a true 50:1 oil mix at low rpm’s and also just the oil injection system failing due to design. Just what I have researched, no personal experience or knowledge of my own. Would I be able to un land the oil line that feeds into the motor from the resivore, and just mix 50:1 into my gas tank, or will the motor not allow this? Or should I just leave it hooked up and not worry about it? I do a lot of fish graphing at low RPM, so I guess I am just a little nervous to do premature damage to the motor. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
