2000 40hp 4-stroke yamaha shutting off above 2000rpm

engine starts fine....runs up to 2000rpm.any more and it stalls and sends a short alarm. restarts and runs to 2000rpm with no problem

what alarm is it sending? Oil or temp?? if you have Yamaha gauges it will show which alarm.

It beeps for a couple of second. So it shouldn't be heat. Runs fine under 2000 all day long. It's almost like it hit a kill condition. But it starts right up. Confused in Nh

Is there a protection system in this motor? 2000rpm limit if there is an issue?

3000rpm. Any more and bubbles to a stop
No alarm...23yr old motor...clean carbs, replace them..go to new motor?

Cdi not firing 2nd cyl
$500 for anew cdi..
Or buy a new motor?

Fix cdi and then what's next. Carbs. It might never end
