Hey y'all. Couple of questions that have nothing to do with each other:

1) My dad is wanting to get his old Evinrude Aquanaut up and going. He has discovered a damaged gear (see pics) and needs to replace it. He isn't sure how to get it out, though. Any of you have any experience with removing one of these? Are they still available for purchase, and where?

2) I noticed some new stains/streaks on the midsection of my 1985 Evinrude 70 hp (see other pics). Anyone know what's causing them? Too much oil in the fuel, maybe?

Thanks in advance for any insight y'all can offer for these questions!

I believe you will find a flat plate with a single bolt through it that holds the whole recoil starter. in Look up from below and you will see it.

Remove the lower covers from the outboard for a better look at where the oil is coming from.

In going back to a post of 2009, the identical post popped up about the gear. One reply stated:

The PN you need is 121546. I know that's not much help as the part is listed as unavailable... but it is a starting point.

I cut grass with a 50 year old LAWNBOY a wonderful machine that runs like new.------It has the same gear.-------However the friction spring that engages the gear appears to be missing on this Aquenot compressor..--------Any lawnmower shop should have those parts !!---------And when done you gently pull on the cord to engage the gear.--Then a hefty pull to start it.----No more breaking that gear.

Time for a parts lawnmower...I saw 5 of them on my local craigslist...an interesting governor on these motors...I took one of these out of the garbage 20 years ago and used it for at least 15 years. Some landscapers still use the commercial models with the large tank for trimming because of their light weight.images.jpg
