Hello, new to this forum.
I'm assessing a boat to purchase that has this engine.
The engine has 480 hours on it, looks clean, fired right up with fresh gas.
The engine/boat has been out-of-the-water for 5-6 seasons. The boat was a saltwater Maine boat.
Engine was stored winterized etc.
If I purchase the boat, I'll "freshen up" this 5.8 to spec, but if the engine starts giving me "hiccups", I'll replace it with either a gas replacement or a 4 cyl. diesel (Yanmar/Volvo).
My question is, what is an "exact drop in replacement" for this 1999 Sea Maxx 5.8 Ford block engine.
I mean "plug and play". Old motor out, new motor in.
I don't want to have to mess around with motor mounts (different wiring harness, new engine panel is OK etc).
I have experience in repowering. Back in 2001 I repowered my 28 Bertram from 351 raw water cooled Fords to new Crusader FWC 5.7s.
I now have a Blackfin that I just repowered with new Cummins RECON 6BTA 370s.
Any suggestions for a replacement motor for the Sea Maxx 5.8s "just in case" ????
Thanks, Bill D
