1999 merc. 50 choke question

I have a 1999 merc. 50 outboard, engine is new to me, when you push in on key should you not hear click of choke, I went out this morning and motor ran fine just noticed there was no click when pushing in on key. Just wondering do I need to look at this further or is this normal, Thanks for your input

You should not have a choke on that motor. They use a primer which is a much better and quieter set-up.

What they do, here, is deliberately flood the motor with raw gas through what's called an 'enrichening' valve. No click. The gas bulb has to be pumped up, however, or there's not enough pressure to do the job.
