Sprayed carb with starting fluid and engine runs as long as I am spraying the fluid in. Found fuel filter half empty...filled with fuel and the engine cranks right up and gives me no trouble for the rest of the day. This seems to happen after boat sits for a few hours and I hammer down on the throttle. The fuel is not keeping up with the demand of the engine...I guess the fuel pump is turning off because of pressure switch as soon as it senses no fuel. So why is the fuel filter only half full of fuel?
A couple of things that come to mind:

  1. Electric fuel pump not keeping up with demand ( I changed pump... no joy!)
  2. Collapsing fuel supply line...not sure if the elec fuel pump pulls enough suction to cause this.
  3. Fuel tank anti siphon valve?

What do you think?

Also check the fuel vent for a spider nest and vent line for low spot that could hold fuel.
