1996 Mercruiser 5.7 LX EFI Gear shift

Hi all, new to all of this so I hope you can all help out.

I have just experienced an issue with the above engines gear shift, it appears to be locked in the forward drive position only, I cannot get it into neutral or reverse either. I am surprised the engine will start in the forward drive position at all but as soon as I start the engine the propeller is engaged forward and wants to pull me off the dock !!!! The linkage all seems to move correctly as I have checked it against the second engine....any ideas would help ?

P.S. Bravo 1 (Gen 2) outdrive fitted

you either have a Bravo drive or a Alpha 1 GEN II not both

Sorry for my mistake on the drives guys .......I have twin Alpha one (Gen 2) drives. Since posting I have also looked on Youtube and it looks like the issue is with the shifter inside the drive either it has come loose and backed off or actually broken. Great videos on this by the way.
