1996 Johnson 48hp miss at high rpm

1996 Johnson 48 hp. So just purchased a new prop and I finally reach 5000rpm. Problem is it has a slight miss at 5000 rpm, throttle back to 4800 rpm and its fine. Am I over the rpm limit at 5000 rpm? Motor is strong and runs great otherwise. I guess it could also be electrical? Help

Put a timing light on each cylinder when it's acting up, look into the timing light for black spots. That's the cylinder that's miss firing. 5000 rpm is a little low for a rev limiter. Let us know what you find.

Try pumping the primer bulb at 5000rpm to see if issue disappears after above test in thread #2, This would show a weak fuel pump or a fuel restriction in system

Ok great I'll test out today. The cylinder miss would indicate a coil issue?

If you locate the errant coil or cylinder,swap the bad coil with a known good one and see if issue follows coil
