Hello, having some issues with our 93 force outboard. We just purchased it a few weeks ago, apparently hadn't been ran in a few years. When first launched it had an over heating problem, replaced waterpump that was totally destroyed. Before we replaced the water pump it started up fine but would overheat obviously.
Since replacing the water pump we can no longer get the starter to stay engaged (it kicks out within a few seconds) and haven't been able to start it since. We've gotten it running once but it idled too low and then killed within about 10 seconds.
What we noticed today is that the starter will only stay engaged(stay against flywheel) when the killswitch lanyard key is pulled out. Once putting the killswitch key back in place the starter continues to kick out, is it something as simple as replacing the killswitch? We are out of ideas and new boat owners.
What we have replaced already: starter, starter solenoid, waterpump, battery
Thanks for any help!
