1988 mercruiser 4.3 missing and quits running but starts right up

My 4.3 mercruiser will start right up but then misses and sometimes back fires through the carb. It also will stall at idle but also starts right up. It will even quit sometimes at speed but also starts right back up. Replaced cap, wires and coil.

Ayuh,... Sounds like a Carb problem...

check the fuel filters for water...

when you replaced the plugs, wires etc. did you do a compression test.

4 brl or 2 brl.? ...check accelerator pump on carb or rebuild carb

It is a good ideal that anytime you have the plugs out of the engine to do a compression test. That way you have an ideal of what type of shape your motor is in and may be able to catch a minor problem before it turninto a major problem. I also recomend doing a vacuum test on the engine it will help narrow down where a problem may be.
