1988 50hp force jumps out of gear

I have a problem with my outboard jumping out of forward at higher speed.Is there an adjustment for this,or do i have a bigger problem?I do have a 91-50hp parts motor.Is the bottom end interchangable?

Usually it's the clutch dog going bad that does that.The parts are available but need to be put in by a mechanic.
If you are real handy the face of the dog can be machined and used again.#27 on the diagram.J

Is the bottom end of my 88 interchangable with that of the 91?

It should be if it has a 1 piece shaft.J

you might be able to adjust your shift rod lever a bit more and that might help it but eventually you will have to changee it
