i have a 1987 Mercury 9.9 2 stroke engine. I’ve been having a lot of issues with keeping it running at idle, but it’s smoking bad. I just had the carb out and tore it apart and cleaned it. It was quite dirty. Put it back in and motor starts on full choke but will still not idle. I put new spark plugs in as well and noticed that the bottom cylinder inside where the plug goes was quite black and gummy. Ran the motor again for a bit and once I found my way through the cloud of smoke I shut it off and pulled the plugs to look. The top plug looked good. The bottom plug was black and wet. Any thoughts on what is causing this problem and how to fix?
