1987 MARINER 40 2 STROKE POOR FUEL CONSUMPYION

Hi, i have a 1987 2 stroke Mariner 40 , on my recent trip i had terrible fuel conuption ( 1km per 1 liter).
I would like to know if I changed the main jet to a smaller one would this help the consumption.
I bought the motor from Johannesburg which is at a high altitude, I am in durban which is a coastal city at a low altitude. could thus be the cause ?

When you go to sea level you usually go to a bigger main jet.----So how big / fast is you boat???----Have you done any other trouble shooting ?----Fuel consumption as you stated means nothing if we do not know speed of the boat !!

Hi Cruising speed 20 km/h . No i have not done any trouble shooting, bit scared as it never gives any trouble, only thye bad consumption.

Check carburetor float valve.----Check fuel pump diaphragm.
