I need some advice and hopefully someone can help. I bought a Volvo penta aq131a engine that I was hoping would be a drop in replacement for my old engine, which is also a Volvo penta aq131a. Turns out the alternators are different and I’m not sure how to wire it up. The old engine I pulled from the boat had an alternator with no purple wire and the engine I bought to replace it does. I’m not sure if I should replace the alternator with one that doesn’t have the purple wire or if I should figure out how to properly wire up my current one. Right now, when I hook up a battery the only thing that works is my cb radio. It is a 1987 citation caprice and wasn’t in the best of shape so it is possible that it has other issues as far as electrical components. I will have pictures posted soon. Any help is greatly appriciated!
