1986 Mariner 140hp good bet

i don't know the Mariner motor at all - always had a differnt brand - any opinions on an 86, 140hp mariner? any issues to look at? - it is on an 18 foot Intruder ski boat that I am looking at to buy. Any tips on what to look at when I try it out? Was Mariner making good motors in 1986?

"Jason, there was only 4 model years with a 140 Mariner.

There was a 140 produced in 1978 and then again in 1979.

The second run was a Jet model produced in 1995 and 1996.

If this is not a jet model somebody is a little off on the year. If it is the earlier 140 model it will be one of the "tower of power" straight 6 models.

Personally I would not pay alot for one of those. Yes they are a "classic" etc etc but can cost you a bundle if they aren't working properly.

In 1986 Mariner had either a 135 or 150 horse motor in that horsepower class. The 135 is one of my favourite Mercs of all time.

So confirm the horsepower and ask for the serial number if you are interested in this rig....."
