will not rev more than 3000RPM?
this engine is on a 19ft powerboat with a 19" s/s prop.
first time out(just bought)
speedo at 3000rpm=50mph flat out
any ideas thanks Peter

You are propped correctly for this set-up and should be getting up near the 50 mph mark - but your tach should be reading about 6k not 3k at that speed.

"Peter - it may a bit of pain but you need to get to the back of the tach where everything wires up.

On the back should be a kind of selector switch that will allow for different pole/cylinder settings (so the tach reads right) you may have 4 or 5 different available settings (standard outboard tach).

You should be looking to set it to "6P"...

I've included a diagram of what you are looking for on the back...

Have removed tacho and adjuste

Have removed tacho and adjusted to right setting now giving 4000RPM flat out?????????????????
any ideas
