Im looking for a lower unit and want to know all models that will interchange. I know sometimes a 30hp is the same and other times it may be a 50hp....knowing all my options will really help in locating parts in general. It seems that its a little difficult because early model Mariners were mostly made by Yamaha and late models by Mercury! Please help...a conversion guide would be awesome!Serial / model 40ml 6E9 L 307403

2 CYL. You are going to have to do some investigating yours is a yamaha built motor. That means only the yamaha/mariner lower can be used. You should be able to go on this website and look up part #s Or find a used blown up motor. Another option find a outboard salvage yd and see if they have one.

You have what was referred to as a "C" model Yamaha/Mariner.

You need to find another C model as the donor or as noted above, a 1981 thru 1983 Yamaha model FM/FE/FEML.

That is one of the challenges with the Yami Mariners. The "actual model" was often discontinued by Yami (as their own model) "many years" earlier than the Mariner rolled off the line. So while the Model 40C Mariners were build right up until the early 1990's, they were still "mechanically" a 1983 Yamaha.

The earlier 40 Yami/Mariners, recognized as the A and B models were "mechanically different", so part swapping is not possible.

Because of this, in your case, you either MUST find another C model or one of the (parent) Yamaha's which were only marketed in three model years.

Having said that, of all the Yami/Mariners that were out there, the 40 horse C model was the most prolific.
