1982 Evinrude 235 hp shift rod retaining bolt removal

I need any tricks to remove the shift rod retaining screw so I can drop lower unit to replace the water pump impeller assy.

I think just a quarter inch drive rachet with a long extention and a 3/8 swivel socket

Removing the bottom carburetor might make it easier for a novice.----I have a pair of 82 model 235 Johnsons on my boat.

Does anyone know if some of these water pump kits are made for several different applications??? It looks like I might have 1 O-ring and 1 impeller keyway left over? I want to be sure before I re-install the lower unit? Any help is greatly appreciated.......Thanks!
